Black Leopard Red Wolf is a gift that has been bestowed upon from the magnificent mind of Marlon James. Forget about all the comparisons, you’ve read about. This is not the African Game of Thrones or whatever, as an African, I KNOW!

“Black Leopard Red Wolf” Blurb

Tracker is a hunter, known throughout the thirteen kingdoms as one who has a nose – and he always works alone. But he breaks his own rule when hired to find a lost child, he finds himself part of a group of hunters all searching for the same boy. Each of these companions is stranger and more dangerous than the last, from a giant to a witch to a shape-shifting Leopard, and each has secrets of their own.

As the mismatched gang follow the boy’s scent from perfumed citadels to infested rivers to the enchanted darklands and beyond, set upon at every turn by creatures intent on destroying them, Tracker starts to wonder: who really is this mysterious boy? Why do so many people want to stop him being found? And, most important of all, who is telling the truth and who is lying?

Here is the gist of this 640-page beauty: main dude, Tracker, and some other folks have been hired to find a boy. The boy is kind of missing and may or may not be dead. Among these folks, there are those that want to find the boy, some plan to kill him, and some would rather he remains missing. Now, this hired group is a mix of humans, witches, mercenaries, and some magical beings. As the story progresses, you wonder; Who is the boy? What happened to him? Is Tracker lying? Should You Bother Reading Black Leopard Red Wolf?

Black Leopard Red Wolf

This book will require your concentration at all times. It will not be easy but it would be so worth it. What I love the most is how storytelling is almost like a currency in this world, the people measure themselves not only by their violent feats but also by their skill in recounting them. Also, the character development is just impeccable. I want this book brought to life so bad but I’m scared of what they’d do to it.

I found it hard to compare this book to any other epic. Sure, it’s in the FANTASY catchment area, but that’s where it ends. Marlon James studied the rules of fantasy fiction and turned the whole thing on its head. In a nutshell, YOU HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE! This was an Advanced Readers Copy given to me by Hamish Hamilton. I highly recommend it, but I think I read mine too early because what am I supposed to do with my life now?
